Step 1: Remove the Old Grout
Using a manual grout saw or a cordless multi-tool fitted with a grout removal blade, we carefully rake out the old deteriorated grout to a depth of at least 3 to 5mm. This gives the fresh grout enough room to bond securely and do its job properly.
Step 2: Clean Thoroughly
Once the old grout is out, we vacuum away all the dust and loose particles, then wipe down the tile joints with a damp cloth to remove any remaining debris. Getting the joints completely clean is essential, new grout won't bond well to a dirty surface.
Step 3: Mix and Apply Fresh Grout
The grout is mixed with water to a smooth, toothpaste-like consistency, not too wet, not too stiff. Using a rubber grout float held at a 45-degree angle, we work the grout into the joints without removing the tiles to fill them completely and eliminate any air pockets.Â
Step 4: Clean Off the Haze
After allowing the grout to firm up for 15 to 20 minutes, we wipe away the excess from the tile faces using a slightly damp sponge and circular motions, rinsing the sponge frequently to keep the finish clean.
Step 5: Cure and Seal
The grout is left to cure for 24 to 72 hours depending on the product used and the humidity in the room. Once fully cured, silicone sealant is applied along the corners where the floor meets the wall and around the laundry tub - the spots most vulnerable to water pooling and movement.
Because the laundry is one of those rooms that doesn't get inspected very often, grout damage can quietly build up without you noticing. Here are the most common signs that it's time to regrout:

In our time in the industry, we have found that over 95% of showers leak due to wall and floor separation. The movement to the structure of a building causes the shower recess to weaken. The early warning signs of this is cracks appearing in the grout and the tiles, if left unattended over time this will cause the loosening of tiles leaving an opening for water to penetrate through walls and also spread under floors.
The result of this is further damage to your home. What starts as a simple crack in your grout can lead to rotten timbers causing an attraction of white ants and termites into your home. It is imperative that you act fast to avoid any structural damages to your home.
